2024 Youth Essay Contest

Essay Info

T. ROSE Foundation is inviting middle, and high school students to help honor the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. by submitting essays that reflect on Dr. King's dream.

 

$250 Cash Award for Winners; second and third place winners will receive cash awards also; and participants will have an opportunity to receive cash and prizes.
 

The 2024 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Essay Contest!

Winners will be awarded during an onsite presentation celebration.

January 15 * ArtBlock, Detroit * 3pm to 5pm

 Essay Due by: Wednesday, January 10 @ 5pm *Extended to January 15

January 20 * Calvin University, Grand Rapids * 2pm to 4pm
 Essay Due by: Monday, January 15 @ 5pm

Writing Prompt: 
Students must submit individual essays that reflect on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s dream and work towards equality. Students should provide their own aspirations, and the importance of what Dr. King means to them. 

 

Bonus Question:  How do you relate to Dr. King as a Social Entrepreneur? 

Word Count Guidelines: 

Students may submit essays with drawings or photos.

Middle School (6-8): 300 words minimum

High School (9-12): 500 words minimum

**Students in grades below Middle School can submit; we will review and consider; the submission.  Adjusted do to multiple requests.  Good Luck!!

  • The student's first and last name

  • The students age

  • The name of the student's school (no abbreviations)

  • The students grade

  • The address of the student's school; (include city)

  • A parent's contact information (phone AND email, please)
