Students must present their essays onsite for contest entry completion. Family and friends are welcome to join the engagement and support the students. {Lite refreshments will be available.}
1st Place Prize - $150 VISA Gift Card
2nd Place Prize - $100 VISA Gift Card
3rd Place Prize - $50 VISA Gift Card
Guidelines:
1. Students from Kindergarten through High School may submit essays in one of the following grade categories:
• a) Elementary school
• b) Middle school
• c) High school
Essay length guidelines:
Elementary: 250 – 350 words; pictures accepted
Middle School: 350 - 500 words
High School: 500 - 700 words
2. Entries may be submitted via email or postal mail.
3. Entries submitted must include a cover page indicating the following:
(1) your name; (2) grade/category: a, b, or c; (3) zip code;
(4) e-mail [student/guardian]; (5) phone number; (6) school name
4. The essay must be original; plagiarized entries will be omitted.
5. Essay prompt questions. All components must be addressed within your essay:
*How has the subject challenged the status quo in our society?
*How has the subject inspired or influenced your own life?
*High School Only: What have been the most important outcomes
of the subject's impact on our society?
A panel of judges will review the essays.
The panel will judge and score each student by assigning a point value (0-5) to each student for the following criteria: [a] prompt questions; [b] the degree to which the chosen subject has impacted the life of the student and/or society; and [c] the story's originality.
